15th Oct: nearly at proof stage

Having just managed to get most of the different chapter information up on the website, I’m coming back to these posts. I’m been starting to understand some of the grueling parts of finishing a book. I have had to find all images for the book which are publicly available, and to get the required permissions (with information like for how many printings, in which country, with ebook options, etc.). I have had to work with my own drawings, and a few have had a professional art designer redo them, leading to many errors that need sorting out. I have gone through the first edited manuscript, which was a joy since my copy-editor Kathleen was so good. Luckily she also said that she really liked reading it, and many parts were surprising to her, so that bodes well. We had various discussions about English vs American, and how to be consistent. I still have no idea of a marketing strategy, so that is soon to follow up. I have also had a first look at the proposed cover, which was perhaps not as inspiring as I hoped – a black door. But we will see. In a few weeks I’ll get the proofs, and maybe then I’ll get a sense as to how well the project has gone.
